Xero’s move to the industry standard API authorization process, OAuth 2.0As Xero moves to the industry standard API authorization process, OAuth 2.0, we’re committed to keeping you regularly updated. It’s a big move, but in the interests of the entire Xero community.

We’ve been communicating this to the Xero API community for a while, and with OAuth 1.0a being fully deprecated in March 2021, we want to ensure you have all the information you need to make the transition for you and your customers as smooth as possible.How this change affects your Xero API integrations:You can no longer create OAuth 1.0a private apps.All new apps will need to be created in OAuth 2.0.By 31 March 2021, you will need to move every custom API integration (private app) you’ve created to access your customer’s Xero subscription data to OAuth 2.0. What you need to do:Identify the right people on your side who are responsible for your Xero API integration.Ensure they read this blog and Xero Central article for an overview and how the migration relates to your bespoke private apps.Check out private app deprecation FAQ on our Developer Center.Make sure you’re subscribed to our Developer Newsletter to stay up to date.Make a plan to move your apps to OAuth 2.0 well before deprecation of OAuth 1.0a.Need a hand?
